Thanks to the amazing efforts of countless people in our community and a nearly 7 -year fight, Nordic Aquafarms is no more!
This is an incredibly hard-won victory, not only for our local fishing and coastal communities, but for Penobscot Bay and the lower Little River!
We are also pleased to announce Upstream Watch has founded Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper to guarantee ill-conceived projects like Nordic never threaten Penobscot Bay and Watershed again.
Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper will be a strong advocate for clean water, a vibrant local fishing community, and healthy communities throughout the watershed. We will follow the science, hold polluting industries accountable, and engage our communities to steward the precious waters of the region. We hope you will join us in this effort!
In the short term, we’re fast at work finishing up our strategic plan and exploring every avenue to permanently protect the lower section of the Little River. We are deeply committed to conserving this beloved forest, meadow lands, wetlands and streams for the enjoyment and wellbeing of all.
Please stay tuned to learn more on how you can help permanently protect this land and become part of the Waterkeeper movement. For information on volunteer opportunities, please contact Interim Director Pete Nichols at pete@upstreamwatch.org.
Onward!
